Village issues Mental Health Center RFP

The Village recently issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to three firms interested in developing the 280-acre former Tinley Park Mental Health Center property at 183rd Street and Harlem Avenue.

The three developers were among five firms that responded to a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) the Village issued in January. Only firms that submitted the RFQ and met the qualifications were invited to submit a proposal.

Village to host '80s-themed Block Party

The decade of big hair, cassette tapes and stonewashed jeans will return Sunday, July 15 when the Village of Tinley Park hosts its annual Downtown Tinley Block Party from noon to 7 p.m. along Oak Park Avenue from 171st to Hickory streets.

This year’s theme, ’80s Life Amplified, will be reflected in the afternoon’s array of free musical outings and family-friendly activities, including rides and inflatables, a classic car show, a bean bag tournament and the Teen Battle of the Bands competition at 2 p.m. in the Subway parking lot. Food and beverages also will be sold.

If you love Shrek, High School Musical, the Lion King and other classic cinematic celebrations of song, don’t miss the 15th annual Benches on the Avenue along Oak Park Avenue in Downtown Tinley! This year’s benches are based on the theme “Treasured Family Musicals” and feature some of the most classic musicals of both stage and screen.

Sister Cities Commission seeks host families

The Tinley Park Sister Cities Commission will be welcoming an official delegation from Budingen, Germany from Oct. 2 to 14 and is seeking residents who are interested in being host families.

ComEd is performing vegetation management activities on distribution circuits in Tinley Park throughout the next several months. Vegetation management is a key component of ComEd’s maintenance program to ensure system electrical reliability, as vegetation contact with ComEd equipment is a leading cause of outages.

Mayor shaves head to support cancer research

Millennium Elementary School in Tinley Park recently hosted its annual St. Baldrick's Day Head Shaving Event, which is held with the goal of raising funds to help battle childhood cancer.  The event went off without a hitch! Students in kindergarten through fifth grade had volunteers who decided to participate in the head shaving out of solidarity for their fellow students battling childhood cancer. The event also had a few teachers and past students who wanted to participate by having their heads shaved, as well.
