Büdingen, Germany Update
June 2008
A WONDERFUL TRIP TO BÜDINGEN
Our good friends in Büdingen, Germany hosted 16 Tinley Park travelers from May 9 to May 19, 2008.
We enjoyed two wonderful weekends, with perfect weather and “Gemütlichkeit.” First it was Schützenfest. This celebration is held annually during the week of “Pfingsten” or Pentecost. It is celebrated the seventh Sunday after Easter. The “Büdinger Schützen-gesellschaft” or “Shooting Club” was formed in 1353 and is one of the oldest in Germany. 2008 was the 230th anniversary of the club.
The next weekend we enjoyed “Altstadtfest” (old city festival) and Folklorefest with all-day entertainment and socializing. We have enjoyed these fests before but they are different every year and always a great time. It was non-stop entertainment for two days.
In between the town festivals were three day trips to the Rhine River, Lich, Germany and “Point Alpha” a place of great significance in the post war division of Germany. We laughed a lot, saw new places and learned much about the wonderful nation of Germany.
If you have traveled to Büdingen before, you know how wonderful it is. If you have never met our friends in Büdingen this is a wonderful time to expand your world.
Tinley Park has a lot to offer. One very special thing we offer is a chance to be part of a “community” which includes the rest of the world. We will need host families for October 2009 when our Büdingen friends visit us to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our relationship. We want you to be a part of the fun.
If you are want to get involved, write or email us for more information. Call the Tinley Park Village Hall 444-5000 and leave a message for the Sister Cities Committee. You can email us at sistercity@tinleypark.org. The street address of Village Hall is 16250 S. Oak Park Ave., Tinley Park, IL 60477.
