The Tinley Park - Mallow relationship is progressing.

Two groups of travelers have recently enjoyed the hospitality of our new sister city. If you don't already know, Mallow is the "Crossroads of Munster," nestled in the Blackwater Valley. Mallow is a "thriving business and satellite town."

In May of 2002 Mayor Edward J. Zabrocki, his wife Emily and a few close friends visited Ireland and enjoyed a wonderful and productive stay in Mallow.

While in Mallow May 29, 2002 Mayor Zabrocki and Mayor Dan Joe Fitzgerald signed official "twinning" documents. Mayor Fitzgerald said "every community needs new ideas and new inspirations, We all need some new ways of looking at things and the twinning partnership is one of the most fruitful sources of such inspiration. Both partners win by looking at the methods of work and the style of doing business that works for the other party."

"I'm looking forward to an active partnership between Mallow and Tinley Park and one that will be beneficial not just on the community level but an economic front as well," Mayor Zabrocki said.

Mayor Zabrocki's visit included a helicopter ride over Mallow, factory tours (including a visit to the Kostal and Dairygold companies), Mallow's Town Council, Enterprise Office, Chamber of Commerce and lunch with the Mallow Rotary Club.

In August a group of golfers, including Trustees Greg Hannon and Matt Heffernan, visited courses in Ireland. The Mallow Golf Club was the highlight of the visit. This tree-lined course offers challenging golf and beautiful views of the Mushera and the Galtee mountains. It was not simply a vacation for the group. They attended a Council meeting, met with Mallow officials and the new Mayor of Mallow. Elected in June 2002, Mayor Richard Dempsey has been active in Mallow for many years and is a supporter of the twinning concept.

There will be more news from Mallow in the months to come. The all volunteer Tinley Park Sister Cities Commission is actively working to keep this new relationship well tended.
