Division Responsibilities
One of the most important jobs of the Public Works Department is to ensure that the residents of Tinley Park have a safe, dependable water supply. For this reason, the Water and Sewer Division works to ensure that our sanitary sewer system and water system are up-to-date and functioning properly at all times.

'How to Check Your Water Meter" video
Join Water and Sewer Superintendent Tom Kopanski of the Tinley Park Public Works Department in the video “How to Check Your Water Meter,” which is now playing on Tinley TV.

In the 18-minute instructional video, Kopanski explains the different types of water meters the Village uses, as well as how to locate, isolate and check the meter in your home. He also discusses what the Village does when it receives a call from a resident and how you can take a proactive approach by checking for possible leaks in your home.

You can watch the video on the Village’s official YouTube channel by clicking here, or you can catch the program on Tinley Park Television, which broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week on Comcast Channel 4 and U-verse Channel 99.

Backflow Preventer Use survey
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) requires every water supply to develop and implement a cross connection (backflow prevention) control program. A requirement of the program is to send a survey to all residential water customers every two years. All residential water customers are requested to complete the survey, which takes only a few minutes.
