'Run for Your Life' Safety 5K Run/Walk

The Tinley Park Fire Department and the nationally accredited Tinley Park Fire Prevention Bureau hosted the second annual Run for Your Life Safety 5K at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 4 at the 80th Avenue Metra train station, 18001 S. 80th Ave., Tinley Park.

The event again raised money for the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance’s Camp I Am Me, which is the first accredited burn camp in the United States for children ages 8 to 16 who are burn survivors. In 2013 the event raised more than $13,000 for the camp through sponsorships and participation.

Inaugural Safety 5K

On May 5, 2013 the Nationally Accredited Tinley Park Fire Prevention Bureau and Fire Department hosted their inaugural ‘Run for Your LIFE SAFETY’ 5K Walk/Run to help raise money for the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance ‘Camp I Am Me’. With increased fire safety awareness as its primary goal, the 5K Walk/Run exceeded everyone’s expectations in attendance and sponsorship.

On June 19, 2013, members of the Fire Prevention Bureau presented checks for more than $13,000 to "Camp I Am Me," whose mission is to provide a safe environment for children who have experienced significant burn injuries. There is no cost to the children’s families; the IFSA even provides transportation to and from camp.
