Edward J. Zabrocki has led a life dedicated to public service, education, community and family.

Mayor Zabrocki has been Mayor of the Village of Tinley Park since 1981, following 10 years of service before that on Village commissions and then the Village Board. He also was elected and served as 37th District State Representative to the 89th Illinois General Assembly.

During this time, Mayor Zabrocki has received numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding commitment to the community from such organizations as the Tinley Park Chamber of Commerce, the Crisis Center for South Suburbia, local service clubs and organizations, local school districts, veterans groups, and Chicago and local newspapers. His far-reaching reputation for distinguished public service led to his selection as a 2005 finalist for the World Mayor Award sponsored by the City Mayors international organization. He also was given a Community Leadership Award by Diversity, Inc., and was featured in the “Who’s Who in Government” publication.

His longtime leadership experience and expertise has been sought out by many government associations. He has served as president of both the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association, as well as in all other offices for those two groups. He has also served as a director of the Illinois Municipal League, and as a member of the Cook County Community Block Grant Advisory Committee, the South Suburban Council, the Orland/Tinley Economic Development Committee, the Metropolitan Economic Development Alliance and the Northeast Planning Authority.

His devotion to service also extends to the field of education. Retired in 2005 as Director of Guidance at Brother Rice High School in Chicago, Mr. Zabrocki also has been recognized by his peers for his career achievements. Awards include Man of the Year from Brother Rice, as well as induction in that school’s Hall of Fame, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minn., and the Outstanding Alumni Award from Annunciata Grade School in Chicago.

Mayor Zabrocki and his wife, Emily, have lived in Tinley Park since 1970. They are the proud parents of two children and the grandparents of six.
