Education

As a result of rapid expansion and population growth over the past two decades, Tinley Park residents are now served by five elementary school districts (grades K-8) and four high school districts (grades 9 to 12). Within the boundaries of Tinley Park are 13 elementary schools, three junior high schools and two high schools, all of which collectively enroll more than 10,000 students each year.

Most children in grades K-8 attend schools in Tinley Park School Districts 146 and Kirby 140, or Arbor Park 145 in Oak Forest. Two other districts – 159 in Matteson and Summit Hill 161 in Frankfort – serve families residing in the southern portions of Tinley Park. All districts place strong emphasis on the basics while providing a nurturing learning environment for students and encouraging parental involvement at all grade levels.

Augmenting the public education system are several private and parochial schools, including St. George Catholic School, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin School, Trinity Lutheran School and Southwest Chicago Christian School.

Tinley Park High School in District 228 and Victor J. Andrew High School in District 230 enroll most of Tinley Park’s older students; others attend either Rich South High School in Richton Park or Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort. Area high schools offer college preparatory courses, general academic studies and comprehensive vocational education programs.

Conveniently located in and near Tinley Park are several community colleges and four-year colleges. Moraine Valley, Prairie State, Joliet Junior and South Suburban community colleges all offer a wide range of associate degree programs, skills training, and special interest and non-credit courses. Nearby four-year colleges include DePaul University, Robert Morris College, the College of St. Francis, Lewis University, Governors State University and Trinity Christian College
