Door-to-Door Solicitation

No SolicitorsAll door-to-door solicitors wishing to operate in the Village of Tinley Park must complete a background check and obtain a Village permit.* While the First Amendment and the U.S. Constitution protect the rights of door-to-door solicitors and preclude the ability of a community to ban door-to-door sales, residents can let solicitors know they don’t want to be contacted by picking up a free “No Solicitors” decal upon request from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at Tinley Park Village Hall, 16250 S. Oak Park Ave.

Residents should place this decal on the front door or window so that it can be clearly seen when approaching the building. If the decal/notice is clearly visible, a solicitor should not distribute advertising materials, knock on the door, or ring the doorbell. If this happens, you may ask them to leave your property and call the Tinley Park Police Department at (708) 532-9111.

To report someone soliciting door-to-door without a permit, misrepresenting themselves or their company as working for the Village of Tinley Park, or aggressive behavior towards residents, call the Tinley Park Police Department’s nonemergency number at (708) 532-9111. Residents can also file a consumer complaint with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office at (800) 243-0618.

See below for an example of a solicitor badge, as well as a list of door-to-door solicitors who have completed the required background check and have been issued a permit by the Village of Tinley Park. Solicitors without a permit (badge) are not allowed to solicit door-to-door in the Village of Tinley Park.
