The Tinley Park Fire Department held its seventh annual “Run for Your Life” Safety 5K Run/Walk May 5 in the north parking lot at the 80th Avenue train station. The event included a 1K Kids Dash, a food drive to support Together We Cope, and an awards ceremony following the run.
The event included the a 1K Kid’s Dash, as well as a food drive supporting Together We Cope, a nonprofit homeless prevention agency based in Tinley Park.
Race proceeds benefited the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance's Camp I Am Me, a camp for children ages 8 to 16 who are burn survivors. The event raised about $16,000 this year and more than $112,000 overall through sponsorships and participation.
The overall/top male winner was Jeff Koranda, 33, of Chicago, who finished with a total time of 17:53.9.
The overall/top female winner was Calista Stefaniak, 20, of Chicago, who finished with a time of 21:18.8.
