Without the help of volunteers, the Village wouldn’t be able to execute all of the fun, family-friendly events it holds throughout the year, from the Tinley Park Block Party to Holiday Happenings and everything in-between. Volunteers are the foundation! If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, the Village has a new, simplified sign-up structure that rewards those that give their time and talents to help pull of these events. The Village typically solicits volunteer help for the Irish Parade, the Farmers Market, the Block Party, Boo Bash and Holiday Happenings.
See below for more information on each event and what is required from volunteers who work them.
Farmers Market
Setup: Volunteers are needed at set-up on Saturday mornings to assist with minor set-up and to help vendors find their spots. Lifting as much as 35 lbs. and walking are required.
During the Event: Volunteers will walk around the market to check for issues, work the Village of Tinley Park’s information booth, handle money with the sale of Farmers Market items, and other duties as assigned.
Block Party
Setup: Volunteers are needed at set-up on Saturday morning to assist with minor decorating and to help vendors find their spots. Lifting as much as 35 lbs. and walking are required.
During the Event: Saturday and Sunday volunteers may be needed in multiple locations, including:
- Assisting at the ticket booth, which is a sitting role but will require counting of money and using a credit card reader on an iPad or iPhone
- Walking supplies to stages or craft areas as needed; light lifting is required.
Boo Bash
The family-friendly Boo Bash is held the Sunday before Halloween in Zabrocki Plaza.
Single-Day Event: Volunteers are needed to help decorate, assist with games and crafts, hand out candy, and clean up after the event is over. This event requires multiple hours of standing in potentially cold and inclement weather, as well as bending and lifting as much as 25 lbs.
Holiday Happenings/Market
Photos with Santa: Volunteers are needed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to assist with handing and accepting tickets, lining up families, and helping children with Santa.
Holiday Market: Volunteers are needed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to assist with selling items and answering questions at the Village booth inside the Holiday Market tent.
Volunteer Structure
To ease the search for volunteers, the Village is streamlining the application process. A call for volunteers will happen approximately three weeks before an event, and again one week before an event, through the Village’s social medial channels and existing Village newsletters. Each call for volunteers will clearly state what the volunteer jobs entail and what shifts are available. Potential volunteers will be directed to a Jot Form, where they can sign up for volunteer opportunities and their corresponding shifts.

The Village appreciates all its volunteers and recognizes that these events couldn’t happen without them. While all volunteers are guaranteed to receive these items, the Village hopes to recognize and reward dedicated volunteers in other ways throughout the year. Volunteers are truly the backbone to our events!
