The objective of the Beverage Alcohol Seller and Server Education Training (BASSET) program is to reduce the number and severity of alcohol-related incidents leading to death, injury and property damage. Typical incidents include traffic accidents, pedestrian falls and accidents, and intentional damage and injury caused by excessive alcohol consumption. This is accomplished through the education of servers, clerks, managers and owners of establishments that sell and service alcoholic beverages.

Instructors are registered with the Illinois Liquor Control Commission and are certified to conduct training throughout Illinois. Course objectives include:

  • The nature and magnitude of accidents and injuries resulting from the consumption of alcohol
  • The importance of responsible alcohol service for the public and the establishment the server works for
  • The physiological effects of alcohol
  • State and local laws relating to sales and service of alcohol
  • Liability issues
  • Fraudulent identification and how to recognize it and deal with it
  • Behavioral cues for alcohol misuse
  • Effective strategies for intervening and preventing excessive drinking by patrons that become intoxicated
  • Techniques for terminating service to patrons
BASSET classes are available at various times. The cost is $50 per student. Students should bring a check payable to the Village of Tinley Park to the class where a receipt will be issued.
