Mayor Glotz's Monthly Message

Posted: March 3, 2022

Mayor Michael GlotzWith COVID-19 mitigation measures being lifted and the cold and snow mostly behind us (fingers crossed), residents across Tinley Park are more anxious than ever to get out there and have some fun. On that end, I have some great news – our slate of exciting special events is back for another year!

The events season officially kicks off with the annual Tinley Park Irish Parade this Sunday at 1 p.m. along Oak Park Avenue in Downtown Tinley. Come out to see nearly 80 floats, performance groups, vehicles, walking groups, and our honored guest for the afternoon Kevin Byrne, who, in addition to being our Grand Marshal, is also the Consul General of Ireland to Chicago. It’s sure to be a great time and the perfect way to start the year’s events.

The season will continue with Photos with the Bunny from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the Oak Park Avenue train station. Bring a camera and have your picture taken with the Easter Bunny himself!

The Tinley Park Farmers Market is back for another year and will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from June to October in Zabrocki Plaza. Now a Village-run event with a dedicated program coordinator, our Farmers Market will have a renewed focus on produce and fresh flowers. It’s sure to be something you’ll want to put on your calendar!

Later in the year, we’ll have the Tinley Park Block Party the weekend of July 16 in Downtown Tinley featuring tons of fun, food and live music, and a full schedule of great bands for our Music in the Plaza concert series. This year, we’ve booked some pretty high-profile bands, including the Blooze Brothers on June 11, Hillbilly Rockstarz on June 25, Boy Band Night on July 9, Libido Funk Circus on July 23, ARRA on July 30, Rod Tuffcurls on August 13, and Student Body on August 27. Concerts are held from 7 to 10 p.m. in Zabrocki Plaza. It’ll be a summer concert series to remember!

You’ll also want to stop by Oak Park Avenue from May to October to check out our great Benches on the Avenue. This year’s theme is Animal Adventure and showcases animals of every kind. Cruise Nights also return this year and will feature classic cars from every era from 5 to 8 p.m. June 7 to August 30 along Oak Park Avenue.

Later in the year, we’ll have our annual Tinley Park Boo Bash on October 30 and the three-day Holiday Market celebration from December 2 to 4, which will take place at the Oak Park Avenue train station. We’ll have more information on those the closer we get to them, so for now, make sure to mark your calendars!

I’m very excited to have all of our special events back this year, especially the ones that COVID-19 put the brakes on in 2020 and 2021. Our events reflect how wonderful our community is and add to the fabric of Tinley Park as a whole. They’re also great for our local businesses, which prop up our economy and make life more enjoyable for all residents.

I hope to see everyone out this year for lots of fun, great live music, delicious food and drinks, and your fellow residents' comradery. We’re back!
